First off a good market has desperate and or impulsive buyers. Rabid is not enough. I’ve heard it said before that you need to find a rabid market if you want to sell online. Well rabid is great. I mean a rabid market, you know for sure that these people are buyers. The problem with only finding a rabid market is you don’t know for sure that they’re going to buy from you. You don’t know for sure that they’re going to buy online.
A great example of that is pet owners. Pet owners, in my experience at least, they’re very, very rabid about their pets. They’ll spend an enormous amount of money on their pets. But from my experience, trying to sell pet products and trying to sell in this community, they would much rather go down to their local pet store with Fido and have Fido pick out a chew toy than they would buy it online. So, rabid is not enough.
You want someone who’s desperate. You want people who are impulsive. You want people who are ready to buy now.
You also want a market where there are lots of available advertising sources beyond just pay-per-click. I’m talking about being able to advertise on community sites, related email lists, banner ads things like that.
You also want markets that lend themselves to information products. Now I realize that almost every market lends itself to an information product in one way or another but not all of them. So, when you go into this thing be thinking, “Does this market make sense as an information product? Or do people actually have to receive a physical product to get the value?”
Most important, good markets are made up of proven Internet buyers. And the big tip there is to look for affiliate programs. It’s best if other marketers are already successfully selling the kind of products that you can sell. And it’s even better if membership sites already exist in that market.
Now this may sound almost confusing because you might be thinking, “Wait I don’t want membership sites to exist in this market. I want to have the only one.” No it is a good thing if other membership sites exist in that market. Because it shows that you found a market with not only proven Internet buyers, but proven membership buyers. And I’ll cover that in just a second.
So, that’s a good market. Let’s talk about what makes a great market.
